Mentorship Program

What is the Mentorship Program?

CINEC Network alumni are studying diverse majors and working in various industries all over the world. Our alumni make outstanding contributions in their respective fields and are willing to actively share with others. Therefore, we have solemnly launched the one-on-one CINEC Network Mentorship Program.

We intend to recruit mentors from our rich pool of outstanding CINEC alumni in order to provide guidance and advice on academic, professional, and personal development to the mentees in the Mentorship Program. Mentees can have the opportunity to learn from people in the same university and/or major. They can also choose to consult with people in their fields of interest, or get advice on job applications and interview skills, and even exchange learning methods or hobbies. We hope that by providing this platform for everyone to share their experiences, we can help new and old alumni achieve personal development, thereby promoting the common growth and progress of both mentors and mentees.

The Mentorship Program is an internal mutual aid project of the alumni association. The tutors will voluntarily provide help to the students, and the students will not be charged any fees. Registered members of the CINEC network can register for the program on our network.cinec.ca website. The staff will conduct a multi-dimensional fitness assessment and matching based on the information and personal wishes provided by the mentors and mentees on the application form.

During the mentorship process, both parties will conduct one-to-one communication, exchanges and consultations mainly online. Both parties have a lot of flexibility and freedom. Communication can be established through WeChat, email, etc., and if conditions permit, mentors and mentees can also meet offline. The staff of the project team will follow up and give feedback on the progress of each team to ensure the smooth progress of the project.

The Mentorship Program is divided into two phases each year, each for a period of three months. The time of the fall 2021 and winter 2022 sessions are as follows: September 10-12, January 10-April 10 (The specific date may be adjusted). Before the start of each session, we will hold an orientation session to allow the two parties to get to know each other. The specific date will be announced separately.

Why participate in the Mentorship Program?

Mentoring is a kind of learning promotion with the goal of long-term growth, which is based on the common goals, expectations, trust and respect of the mentor and the mentee. Mentoring includes the exchange and dissemination of knowledge, skills, and experience. Both instructors and students can grow and benefit from the mentoring process. Mentees can learn professional knowledge, workplace experience, lessons in life, etc. from the mentor. The mentor can take the process as an opportunity to analyze, review, and summarize what s/he has learned. A successful mentorship program also depends to a large extent on the project role’s perception of their own benefits. The following is a summary of the benefits of being a mentor or a mentee.
